Jan Schlaudraff
Jan Schlaudraff was known as “Boney” in his time at Borussia Mönchengladbach, as his 1.80 metre frame carried a weight of just 68 kg. But the son of a minister’s style of play is anything but brittle and hard. He is more likely to weave and glide his way around opponents, reflected in the “Weasel” nickname he was awarded by Aachen coach Michael Frontzeck. It was in a two-year spell at Alemannia Aachen that the pacy goal-getter’s stellar ascent truly began, drawing the highest praise from Karl-Heinz Rummenigge: “He’s one of Germany’s most promising young players.” Schlaudraff himself believes “my main strength is to use my speed in one-on-one situations,” one of the attributes which earned him a debut Germany cap in October 2006.
